WHAT IS ACS?

ACS stands for Associate of the Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers.

The ACS is one of the leading finance qualifications in Nigeria and is recognised and valued in the financial services industry and the public sector both at home and abroad. The CIS qualification is recognised by the Securities and Investment Institute (SII) of UK and accredited by the Association of Certified International Investment Analysts (ACIIA) of Switzerland.

Our members are employed as stockbrokers, funds managers, pension funds managers and investment analysts in the various sectors of the economy.

HOW ACS WORKS

To achieve the ACS, you must pass the Institute's professional examinations and complete the relevant work experience  requirements.

CIS PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATION

The current ACS qualification comprises two levels of examination, Levels 1& 2 and has been developed to bring the best out of our graduates as professional leaders in any capacity they serve.

The CIS professional examinations are some of the toughest examinations to pass and they will test your ability to perform as a professional, not simply to learn facts. The examinations involve a high degree of commitment and an intensity of study which you may not have experienced before.

The current examination structure consists of 12 subjects which are divided into two levels. Below is the 2-level exam structure:

Students must first pass or be exempted from the subjects at a lower level before proceeding to write the examination at the next level. It is not possible to write a combination of examination subjects of two or more levels in an examination diet.

CIS is the only chartered professional qualification that is designed to train stockbrokers with the unique skills required in the Nigerian capital market.

Many CIS students find career progression quickly. With their new skills, our graduates are in great demand while our members are the only qualified persons who can be chief executives of the dealing members of The Nigerian Stock Exchange.

RECOGNITION BY INTERNATIONAL PROFESSIONAL SECURITIES AND INVESTMENT ASSOCIATIONS

The ACS is one of the leading finance qualifications in Nigeria and is recognised and valued in the financial services industry at home and abroad. The increasing globalisation of investment markets requires that CIS graduates play important role in the international investment market. As a result, CIS has developed strong relationships with recognized securities and investment professional associations in order to open the international marketplace for our members.

Some of these foreign associations that have recognized our qualifications or with whom we have ties are:


1. ASSOCIATION OF CERTIFIED INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT ANALYSTS

Association of Certified International Investment Analysts (ACIIA®) based in Switzerland formally admitted CIS as a contracting member on January 28, 2009. ACIIA is the professional association responsible for the development of the CIIA® examinations, an internationally recognised advanced professional qualification for individuals working in the finance and investment industry.   

As a contracting member, CIS has a right to attend and vote at the AGM of ACIIA in addition to presenting candidates for the final examination of the CIIA®. Back To Top

2. INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION OF CIS QUALIFICATIONS

The professional qualifications of ACS/FCS are recognised by international professional associations.

•  SECURITIES & INVESTMENT INSTITUTE OF UNITED KINGDOM

The Securities & Investment Institute (SII) of United Kingdom has recognised our ACS/FCS qualification as a relevant overseas qualification for admission as an Associate member of SII. Through continuing learning, Associates of SII are able to progress to full membership status.

•  CERTIFIED INTERNATIONAL INVESTMENT ANALYST (CIIA)

Certified International Investment Analyst CIIA ® is an internationally recognised advanced professional qualification for individuals working in the finance and investment industry. The admission of CIS into the Association of Certified International Investment Analysts (ACIIA®) provides opportunity for our members to attain the CIIA ® which is a passport to working in more than 31 countries. The accreditation gives holders of CIS qualifications exemption from the CIIA® Foundation Examination and National Examination and makes them eligible to proceed directly to the final examination of the CIIA®. The CIIA qualification is also recognised by the UK Financial services Skills Council and the Financial Services Authority. Back To Top
