Membership Admission Requirements and Process
STOCK MARKET AGENT (SMA) STUDENTS
To qualify for registration as an SMA student member, a candidate must have a minimum of first degree, HND, or equivalent qualification.
A candidate must have one referee, who is a full member of the Institute (Fellow/Associate). The processing of application may be delayed if the candidate’s referee has not paid his current annual subscription/due.
Graduates
GRADUATES: On successful completion of the professional examinations, a student member is automatically transferred to the Graduate list.
Associates  
ASSOCIATES: Graduate members applying for admission as an Associate must satisfy the following conditions:
1. All application forms must be properly completed; that is all questions on the form must be answered.
2. All credentials must be certified as true copy of the original and sealed by one of the referees.
3. Nigerian Stock Exchange or Chartered Institute of Stockbrokers result or certificate must be attached.
4. Three recent passport photographs must be attached.
5. Letter of attestation confirming working experience, length of service, schedule of duties and character, from current and previous employers, signed by the Chief Executive.
6. Must be a graduate member in good standing with three years relevant experience, one of which must be post-examinations.
7. Must be sponsored by two referees, who are full members of the Institute (Fellow/Associates) in good standing. Either of the referees must be candidate’s current or previous employer.
8. Must not be a subject of investigations (civil or criminal) or disciplinary action in the capital market, similar professional bodies or other regulatory bodies.
Fellows  
Associates seeking transfer to Fellowship category must satisfy the following conditions among others.
1. Must be an Associate in good standing for a continuous period of five (5) years preceding the application.
2. Must have passed the relevant examination at least ten (10) years before the date of application.
3. Must be sponsored by two (2) Fellows of the Institute in good standing.
4. Must not be a subject of investigation, (civil or criminal) or disciplinary action in the Capital Market, similar Professional Bodies or other Regulatory Bodies.

5. Must comply with MCPD requirement.
